Unexpected Sources of Your Headaches

Unexpected Sources of Your Headaches

It’s common to bemoan a headache. You may decide to simply take an over-the-counter pain medication, crawl into bed, and stay there, and generally, this is perfectly fine. However, if you’re having headaches often, you might want to consider some of the unexpected sources of them — and ask yourself if your primary care team can help.

Schaumburg Immediate Care offers a range of immediate treatment options for conditions such as upper respiratory illnesses, UTIs, STDs, and more. But if you’ve been having frequent headaches, we like to uncover the root cause so we can help you feel better and stay healthy.

Why the source of a headache may be unexpected

Many people experience issues with headaches from staring at a computer screen all day, stress, not wearing the right prescription glasses, or another common reason. But while these are often the sources of regular headaches, there are also issues like migraines and cluster headaches that occur for different reasons. These are usually diagnosed on their own.

Still, other times, you may think you’re having a common stress headache, but it actually requires a different kind of treatment. It’s important to discuss frequent headaches with your doctor for this reason. Because, yes, yoga and meditation are often beneficial, but they won’t solve a headache caused by one of the problems below.

Headache sources not commonly recognized

If you’ve been dealing with sudden and frequent headaches, consider some of these sneaky sources that might be causing the problem for you.

Any and all of these surprising possibilities could be the reason behind your frequent headaches. Depending on the type of headache, how often it occurs, and your lifestyle, we recommend coming in to discuss the problem. This is especially paramount if your headaches are beginning to interfere with your life.

How we diagnose the source of a headache

The first thing we’ll do during your visit is discuss your symptoms. What does it feel like? How often does it occur? Do you experience any other symptoms (an aura, nausea or vomiting, restlessness, or sweating)? We’ll also discuss the severity of your headaches and what might have pushed you to visit us for the issue.

Afterward, we might offer several options. Regular headaches can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication and at-home remedies like rest and a cool compress on the forehead. We might suggest prescription medications for more severe headaches.

Finally, if our concern is that your headaches are a side effect of another issue, we’ll discuss a treatment plan with you. For stress headaches, we’ll provide you with ways to minimize tension in your life. For high blood pressure or infections, we can offer medication. And for other suspected illnesses, we might run more tests before assigning a treatment plan.

Can a headache really be more than a headache?

Yes, and when they’re occurring frequently and interfering with your life, they often are. Let us help you get to the bottom of this issue and start feeling like yourself again.

Our Schaumburg, Illinois, office offers immediate care for patients of all ages. Just call 847-250-1700 or book online to discuss your options.
